Finding Her Why

When Tyler first arrived at the Life Center, she wasn’t seeking applause. She was merely seeking air.

Tyler had a newborn in her arms, with her eight-year-old daughter watching closely. She faces nursing school and work to juggle, all within a home environment that has become unhealthy. Meanwhile, quiet—but heavy—postpartum depression casts a shadow over everything.

“I feel like I’m carrying too much,” Tyler shared, “and I don’t know where to set it down.”

At that moment, life felt like running hard but going nowhereexhausting, confusing, and heavy. Her Guide gently confronted the real struggle. Together, they realized the battle wasn’t only about money or housing. Tyler was carrying a heavy emotional, mental, and spiritual burden. What she needed most wasn’t just relief—it was guidance.

So Tyler made a decision. Instead of quitting, she embraced the Hero on a Mission journey. Her plan was simple but brave: therapy sessions, going back to the gym, walking outdoors to rediscover joy, checking vitamin levels, and asking for prayer instead of pretending everything was fine.

At the same time, Tyler kept moving forward. She returned to nursing school and started a new job at a nursing home in Blue Ash. She cared for her grandmother in a paid role. When her mother told her she had to move out, Tyler didn’t break down—she reached out. With support from the Life Center, she secured an apartment deposit and began building a safe, stable home for herself and her children.

But something deeper was also beginning to grow. Tyler started to rediscover her purpose. She admitted she wanted to pray more, so she opened a Bible app, tried daily devotions, and honestly discussed church, baptism, and what it might mean for her children to grow up knowing Jesus.

“I’m not all the way there yet,” she said, “but I want to be.” Over time, the change became clear. Tyler smiled more. She rested a little easier. Her conversations shifted—from survival to possibility.

Purpose was starting to ignite a fire within her. She dreams of volunteering at Children’s Hospital someday. She’s even envisioned becoming a Life Center Guide—walking alongside someone else who feels overwhelmed and helping them find their own path.

Looking back, Tyler describes the past two years as “rough.” However, she also mentions something else. “The Life Center was a huge blessing. The people here—especially Tom, Tracy, and Jereca—gave me a safe space to grow.”

Tyler is still on her mission. But now she knows something she didn’t know before: When you discover your why, the road ahead starts to make sense.
