There Is No Place Like Home
There is a familiar saying that has stood the test of time: "There is no place like home." I couldn't agree more.
When I think about home, I think of comfort, tranquility, peace, warmth, love, protection, and the unmistakable presence of God. Home is where I can exhale after a long day. It is my refuge from the noise of the world.
I am grateful to share my home with my beautiful wife and our two dogs. It is a place where family gathers, friendships grow, laughter is shared at the table, and even our four-legged companions find safety and belonging. We love opening our doors to others because hospitality has always been one of God's beautiful ways of showing His love through His people.
Yet I also recognize that the word home carries different emotions for different people.
For some, home is found in the workplace or in the church, where they faithfully worship. For others, home may be a shelter, a temporary apartment, or even the streets. Sadly, some homes are marked more by financial stress, broken relationships, addiction, abuse, or chaos than by peace and rest.
The dictionary defines home as the place where a person or family lives. But Scripture offers an even richer picture. A biblical home is more than walls and a roof; it is a place that welcomes God's presence. His peace reigns, and His love is lived out.
The Bible reminds us in Proverbs 3:33, "The Lord's curse is on the house of the wicked, but He blesses the home of the righteous." What a wonderful promise that God desires to bless our homes when we seek Him.
Hebrews 3:4 offers us an important perspective: "For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything." Every blessing we enjoy ultimately comes from His gracious hand.
So let me encourage you to pause for a moment and look around your home.
Is it a place where peace is cultivated? Is it a refuge where grace is freely offered? Do those who walk through your front door sense love, kindness, and hope? Have you intentionally invited the Holy Spirit to dwell in your home and shape its atmosphere?
None of us has a perfect home, but every home can become more Christ-centered.
At the Whitewater Life Center, we understand that a healthy home is foundational to healthy families. That is why our Hero on a Mission mentoring program dedicates an entire section to helping individuals build stronger homes and healthier relationships. We believe God's desire for His people is beautifully expressed in Isaiah 32:18: "My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest."
If your home doesn't feel like "home" today, please know there is hope. You don't have to walk that journey alone. We would be honored to come alongside you, encourage you, and help you take the next step toward the peaceful home God desires for you and your family.
As for me, I thank God every day for the home He has entrusted to us. It is a gift on loan from Him, and I want to steward it well. My prayer is that the Holy Spirit will continue to fill our home with His presence, protect those who enter, and make it a place where everyone experiences genuine love and hospitality.
May your home become more than just the place where you live. May it become a place where God is honored, peace is abundant, hope is restored, and every heart feels at home.
Blessings,
